Once upon a time I was at school during Winter Semester. One morning I woke up from a dream and sat up in bed and said to myself "I'm going to use those spiral legs to make an entryway table...if mom will let me." Shortly after that I messaged my mom and asked if I could use the legs in such a project. The Summer soon rolled around and I was home to start my project. It took lots of time and energy but I finished it. Here are the steps it took to get there.
I started out with ugly painted legs and I stripped the paint to reveal just the beautiful wood.
Tada! Wood!
I bought wood for the box part of the table because after much deliberation I had decided to make the table a compartment style table so if I ever have my own place, it might be small, I'll have extra storage space.
After some incorrect measuring and an hour of cutting by hand, I had the pieces cut to size and ready to assemble.
After placing them and making sure it all fit together I nailed and hammered the box together.
Earlier I had called Mom and asked her if I could use the old Piano Bench seat as the top of the table because it was a good size and we weren't using it. I sanded and patched the seat so that it would be ready to paint. After disassembling the bench I had left over parts that I saved in case I needed them for the table later. I ended up using the hinges for the table top.
I found black paint downstairs in my mothers stash/craft area and after a primer coat I painted the top black.
The legs were next. I primed and painted.
I then primed the box....
Then it got a coat of black as well.
I attached the top with those left over hinges from the old piano bench. It turned out great!
I attached the legs on with double sided screws and wood glue.
All that I needed now was some chain so the top doesn't snap back and rip apart my table. (my amazing step dad Steve's idea!)
Then VIOLA!!! Table Done!
